Level 1/2 Health and Social Care
Overview of the course
This is an OCR Cambridge National, leading to a Level 1 / 2 in Health and Social Care. During the course you will complete four units of work. Three are controlled assessment completed in class and worth 75% of your grade, the final one is an exam at the end of year 11. The first unit is all about learning how to communicate well with a wide variety of people. As part of your work you will organise a Christmas Tea for 100 senior citizens and visit a nursery to talk to the children. In the second unit you will learn skills in first aid from St Johns Ambulance and practice some of the skills you learn in school. The final piece of controlled assessment is all about Body Systems. In this unit you will research and learn about the digestive system, the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system and then research some of the malfunctions of each system. The students who have done this unit said it also helped them with understanding their Biology. In year 11 we learn about the essential values of care for use with individuals in care settings, this is in preparation for an exam.
