Huntington School

 6th Form PDP: Debating

Learn the rules of debating - British parliamentary style - and master the art of speaking with confidence in front of an audience on a whole range of themes you may (or may not) know anything about. In the past few years, Huntington's Debaters have established a record of success, taking on schools from York and across the north of England and even making it to the finals of the 'Oxford Union's Schools Debating Competition' (where our first opponents were from Eton - naturally!)

If you think Debating might be the thing for you, you should have a broad interest in current affairs, a natural sense of justice and you should not take yourself too seriously. You should be prepared to argue with a passion when the occasion demands but equally ready to defend the indefensible and play devils advocate with conviction if necessary. Don't worry if you are not yet the most  confident or articulate natural speaker, for debating will help you build those techniques but you will need a sense of humour, imagination and an argumentative streak.
